I brewed up 2 305 gram, 3.05 litre starters last night. Instead of using my normal White Labs product, I tried the W-Yeast Propogator pack. I smacked it, and it sat on the counter for about 2 hours. Not really all that much puffing to the packet. I dumped it into the starter anywho. Well, here I am with a starter with no activity. All of my starters always take off over night. So, I am off to another LHBS to get myself 2 vials of White Labs Yeast. My question is this. Think anything could go wrong if I simply dump the vials into this starter? Do you see any reason for me to brew up another 2, 305 gram/ 3.05 litre batches?

you may just have to wait longer. the sack pack wasn't exactly in the best condition when you smacked it. just wondering. what makes you think the starter didn't take off? did you take a gravity reading or are you judging by the airlock if you have one on there?

I for one rarely see any "activity" with my starters (depending on the yeast). But I think the proof is in the pudding. Is there a layer of white on the bottom?

No layer of white on the bottom, and I had no Krausen what so ever today. So no, no activity. I use tin foil on top of my Erlymer Flasks.
