As of this Sunday, we'll be on a flight over the Atlantic, Paris-bound. Never been across the pond befo', should be quite an experience. One day in Paris (not so worried about that city this trip), 4 days in the Loire, 4 days in the Cote d'Or, 3 days in Alsace, then we fly out of Frankfurt. Holy hell, 2 whole weeks! What will you do without me? :p

You never know, maybe some of our rooms will have wifi and I can log in and upload some pics. Anyway, don't get too out of hand while I'm gone, kids...

Damn, I can't believe I'll be in France in 5 days!

I hope you've got some big brews in the pipeline that can mature while you're gone!

Sounds fun - have a great trip.

Lots of good imports in France. I expect you to try them all.

Wherever I can find them, I'll try them. No doubt.

Everything's in kegs or bottles save for an oaked RIS (the very definition of big brew needing maturation) and a Saison (which needs clarifying time before kegging). And tack on a couple more weeks to my long-lagering Pilsmead, which won't hurt. When I get back, if I can find a spare moment in between marathon GTA IV sessions, I'm gonna brew a XXX Old Ale and a Munich Helles. And I'm gonna start planning my Flanders Red.

All nice places except...Paris is the dirtiest world capital I have ever visited.

Must see places (for tourists): Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame,
For other reasons: the Louvre, the Palace of Versailles. the view from Sacre Coure and Monmarte, Moulin Rouge, Seine River cruise.

You'll find out the French don't like anybody and the Parisian's don't like the French.

Fischer biere...Enjoy.

Now you know why we're only staying in Paris for a day :D

Enjoy the trip... Small bit of advice...

Jet-lag really only kicks in travelling from West to East and I bet you've an over-night flight... So with the 6 hr time difference (lost) try your best to sleep on the flight over. If you can sleep on the plane (what is is a 6-7hr flight) it's just like a late night but if you don't sleep you get on the plane in the evening and get off in the morning and it feels like you missed a night!

4 days in the Loire...
The Loire is a beautiful part of the world. They're not big on beer, but any settlement larger than a tent will also have its own wine producer, which will probably be local, cheap and fantastic.

Hope the weather stays good for you.

My folks head across the pond at least once a year, as we've got family in Italy. I think my dad sends more email from internet cafes over there than he does from home. You'll probably be posting us reviews of beers while you're still sipping 'em!

And tell them exactly where Americans think they can put their fries too!
FWIW, it's not "French fries" it's "Frenched fries"

"Frenching", not to be confused with the kissing term, is used to describe the long slender cuts of potatos and green beans.

So, like German's Chocolate Cake, which is British, it's Frenched Fires. ;)

In German "pommes frites" (close to "palm fritz") or "potatos fried".

I just got back from a wedding in the Loire valley. It is beautiful there and some of the chateaus are breath taking. The wedding we attended was at a chateau as well, but not one of the large famous ones.

It's sad, but I saw more Bud in France than any other beer (and I'm not talking about the Czech beer).

Man, a guy tries to make a funny and gets blasted on by the linquistic nazis.

Shouldn't we all just be happy we're rid of Evan! for a week or two? :ban:

Hey go into McDonald's and have a McBeer for me. There is nothing like the french equivalent of BMC... Kronenborg.

Say hello.

Thanks for the advice. We're planning on trying to start early, like waking up very early on Saturday and Sunday mornings before we go (like 3am) and going to sleep earlier...just trying to get acclimated.

Yeah, I'm a crazy wine freak, especially French wine, and especially Loire wine. Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc. Does it get any better? Plus I own a wine business which will mean "perks". :D

P'shaw. Why'd you go to France, when you COULD HAVE GONE TO BELGIUM?!

Like I said, I'm a wine freak too. Not making, but consuming and collecting. Belgium is on my list, but for a combination of beautiful country and architecture, and one-of-a-kind alcoholic beverages, France is where we're going for our 1st Europe trip. Belgium next time.

Shouldn't we all just be happy we're rid of Evan! for a week or two?

Precisely what I was thinking. Talk about a pain in the ass! :D

Paris rocks, the other places you're going are great too, but give Paris a shot. One day is definitely not enough IMHO, but at least give your one day a good shot. I always( 3 times) stay at the same hotel, La Sanguine, by the Madeline when I'm there because my great grandmother used to stay there when visiting my great uncle. Don't forget about Le Voltaire BTW.

I'm just glad you sent me beer before you left! :D

Have a great time, mang!

Ha! We should have a mod up the post totals of 10 random users to 8k while he's gone... that will really chap his a$$ when he gets back... damn - did I just say that outloud?

Trip sounds awesome, Evan!.

Fisrt two weeks of our honeymoon were pretty similar, except we went south after Cote D'Or and didn't get to Alsace. 'course, we did it in 2001, when the Euro was USD $0.90 ;)

I knew nothing about Loire Valley wines prior to the trip, but quickly learned to love them. And Chablis (I know, outside Cote D'Or, but close enough)...what chardonnay should taste like if you don't assault it with oak. I'm sure your palate is far more experienced and discerning than mine, but I also like the reds from Nuits St George, and the whites of Puligny- and Chassagne-Montrachet.

And I understand why others don't care for Paris, but I LOVE it.

Anyway, enjoy the trip. I'm envious

Take a few extra bars of soap and some extra deodorant and pass it around.

Maybe you can start a revolution. :D

Have fun bro...

Be sure to take your own wash cloths too. Lots of hotels over there don't know what they are.

Next time, next time. We already have our train booked to Tours, and a car rented there, and a hotel in Amboise. We're not trying to cram too much into 2 weeks...
