Nice scene just the same. But if I went on a small craft on the ocean like that, the Jaws theme would be runnin' through my mind. Do you ever get curious sharks yooper?

Haha, actually yesterday the water was dead calm (twice this week) and it almost never is that calm as the breeze blows quite strongly and often.

Anyway, we kayaked across the bay maybe a mile or more, and that area is very shallow- probably less than 6-8 feet deep all the way. The water was crystal clear so you could actually have great visibility. Anyway, I was slowly padding, just sort of looking at the bottom at oysters and things and a HUGE shark just slowly went under me. Well, it wasn't huge at all, as it was about 4 feet long, but it sure did startle me!

Usually, the only animals we see are fish and dolphins, and we see dolphins all the time as they are very curious. They love to see if you've got a stringer of fish for them to steal.

Yeah, sandsharks & the like aren't usually that big. Kinda scary just the same, I imagined, in a small craft. When wife's sis's family moved to Sarasota, my nephew caught a baby thresher shark that scared the snot out of him. Every once in a while, Lake Erie gets like that, & the aquamarine clear water let's you see artificial reefs, etc 30 to 40 feet down.

You and Kris come on down for a visit! That would be fun.

It would be fun! Until we have to pay for it!

Strangely, we have a good time drinking beer outside (in tents) in February. We are going to TC next weekend for just that.

Feb 28th a friend and I are going to drink at Fifth Third Ballpark at the Michigan Brewers Guild's Winter Beer Festival. I attended the first time they had it at that location a few years ago and it was awesome. I hear it's better now.

Winter ain't bad if you can find something to do (That involves beer!)

Well, it's not so bad here, either! Although it did drop to 68 degrees today and I contemplated putting on long pants.

We were supposed to get the big snow storm around noon today. Snowed this morning for a few hours...we'll see how this pans out. Got beer, chili, kerosine & beer makins.

Snow is 3-4 feet deep around here now. Our 3rd storm in a week ended tonight.
My package from morebeer finally arrived today after leaving Pittsburgh
8 days ago.
Only 6 days later than expected, lol.
It was snowing pretty hard when the fedex guy showed up, was surprised to see them out here in the sticks in this crap but imagine they are pretty backed up with all the snow days lately.
The warm south is starting to sound good, never got above 0 today.

11F here this morning after snowing like crazy yesterday. Over a foot with drifts. Snow piled up some 4'+ by mailbox. Got a starter going as well.

Well, we got dumped on. I must have spent almost an hour snowblowing my driveways yesterday after work. I bet there was almost 3 inches in some places!

;)

I love it when people south of us get more snow.

We got around a foot from Friday night through yesterday in the Lakes Region of NH. At the dealership now, and it's still coming down heavily. They're expecting another 10"+ today, and hopefully they'll let us long travelers leave around 3pm to go home and dig ourselves out.

Absolutely buried. No end in sight. It definitely makes for some tiresome commutes.

When I was a kid living in Wyoming Co., I remember my Dad driving us out onto a recently-plowed back road after a 4-day blizzard. He had us get out of the car and pose for a picture alongside the road. In the background were only the tops of telephone poles. From that point on, anything less in the way of snow for me was "normal" for western NY. The 2.5 feet in our driveway today is a mere "dusting". :)

Yeah it would be fine, but the little street I live on makes it so difficult to get out. People just park wherever their car stops and IF the snow plow goes through it just completely seals up our driveway. It's just mayhem. My parents live up on a hill in Wyoming Co. right now and are pretty buried. They just shovel a path out to the shed to let the chickens out every day.

We got a light dusting overnight & frigid temps coming back. As if it weren't colder than a well digger's bumm already!...

Lightly snowing here now and our forecast for the weekend has now been upgraded to 10"-18". Are you martha flocking kidding? WTF Already!
(this is where Yooper chimes in with another picture of Bob holding a beautiful fish)

I hear ya, Melana. I work in Southern NH and live in the lakes region. Commuting has been great lately, and working at a car dealer that only shuts down for nuclear bombs going off makes for some long days. Good luck to you this weekend, looks like you'll once again get hit a little harder than us!

Going to be 0F on Sunday, and I think colder than that 2 days later. About another week of sub-20 weather, and half of that down around single digits (Daytime temps. nighttime temps in teh minus whatever territory...)

Look, you northern whiners:
  • you don't have to wear SPF30 through the winter.
  • you don't worry about aligators while lake fishing.
  • you aren't distracted year round from bikinis / short shorts / partying co-eds
  • you don't have to mow and trim hedges all year round
  • you get to shut down the pool half the year, we can't
  • you get to build snow men, we are stuck making sandcastles
  • we almost never get a chance to wear all the seasonal fashions (long pants, flannel anything, shoes)

Thanks, makes me feel a lot better.

You forgot the fact that you guys never get to shovel/snowblow snow.

Totally missing out.
