I made the recipe below and it has a "liquid smoke" flavor to it. Any ideas what i am tasting?

Sapporo
1/2 lb carapils
4 lbs pale or extra light malt extract
2 lbs rice syrup solids

1 oz Czech Saaz (60 min)

1/4 oz saaz (15 min)
1/4 oz hersbrucker (15 min)

1/4 oz saaz (1 min)
1/4 oz hersbrucker (1 min)

Wyeast 1275 Thames Valley

I would say it is the combination of the saaz and hersbrucker hops used for aroma. The flavor will proably not remain in the beer as it conditions longer.

Depending upon what I have just eaten, I sometimes get a flavor in Pilsner Urquell that is reminiscent of 'alder wood smoke'.
