Ok, so it's been over 24 hours since I got my first stage fermentation set up. I noticed some periodic bubbling, but nothing significant. The instructions I had from my local brew shop were if there was no activity at 24 hours, pop the lid and give a "vigorous" stir. I'm beginning to notice some steady bubbling about 2 hours after the stir, but nothing significant. What kind of expectations should have have here? Is this a sign of potential problems with this batch? Also what might have caused the lack of "movement" over the first 24 hours?

Thanks
Jimbob

Sounds like it's active, just starting slow. What kind of yeast did you use? Did you make a starter?

I used Hefeweizen Ale Yeast WLP300. And what do you mean by starter?...sorry still learning a lot of the terminology.

Sounds like you just dumped the yeast in the fermenter - that explains the slow start. Don't worry, it will e fine.

For liquid yeast, it's usually best to build up your yeast count by making a starter. A starter is basically a small amount of boiled and cooled DME that you dump your yeast into to lets you yeast increase their numbers before you pitch them to the wort.

That is exactly what I did (per instruction..lol). Thanks for the help. Next batch I will definatly make a starter. Again thanks!!!
