Silicone/Rubber Trivets 17" dia.

Good morning guys/gals. My electric system is supposedly showing up this week and I don't think the system comes with any kind of trivet/pad to put between the kettles and the table. I've read that if you don't put something like this down, the table will act like a big heat sink.

The kettles are 17.75" in diameter so I'm hoping to find some trivets that are approx. 17" diameter. Anyone know of these or know where I can get some? Do you have any other ideas of what I can put between the kettles and the table?

The one thing I don't want to do is cover the entire table top. I want to be able to see the stainless top in between the kettles.

Ss Brewtech makes one for their 10 gal, which is only about 13 in. in diameter, but they are coming out with a 20 gal version soon and will probably have a bigger silicon mat as well. Stay tuned.

I just bought one for my system, but haven't used it yet. The stainless table got pretty hot, within a few inches of the kettle, without one under it.

Michael's Crafts sells 18x24 cork mats for $5. You can easily pick up 3, and cut circles out of them to match your kettles. I have 3 for my 10 gallon kettles and they work great. Keeps my stainless table nice and cool

I have a similar need, so have been surveying options. Best I have found in the right size range are silicone dish drying mats like linked.

No worries on this guys! Any heat losses from the bottom are negligible. There is plenty of power to make up for any conductive losses to the table or convective losses through the sidewalls. The table around the kettles barely gets warm during the brew day.

i have spike 20 gal v3 kettles and use one of these under the boil kettle:

it isn't round but is wide enough to cover the entire bottom. i have a wooden table and even with the mat i still have a heat stain under the kettle. if your table is stainless, i probably wouldn't bother with a mat.

True, the heat transfer is not an issue with stainless (in my experience). However, the table is much more likely to get scratched, if there's no mat.

Home centers like Lowe's or Home Depot usually have a craft section in their lumber department. They usually have wooden discs of various diameters for making tables and such. Maybe check there.

I've got the SS Brewtech ones under my 10-Gallon kettles - nice. They actually come in at just under 14" which is plenty big for my kettles. If your kettles taper down to a footprint that is smaller than the max outside diameter (like the G2's), these might just work for you.

McMaster Carr has high temp silicone sheets available in various sizes, thicknesses, and hardness. They are not cheap.

I did quite a bit of searching recently, even got a couple of quotes and one came in at just over $1200 for three 14" High-Temp Silicone Mats. Wow! Amazon has 12" x 12" squares for close to $15 each (the red stuff - pretty thin, me thinks) but then I saw SS Brewtech's. Sold!
