Seriously stop using acronyms,

I always find myself simply astounded when one expects everyone else to change their behavior to suit them. "I don't like (or understand acronyms) so you should stop using them." "I like BMC so you should stop speaking bad about them." ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

If you don't know the meaning of an acronym, why not simply ask? Do you think it makes you sound more intelligent to wail and moan about the use of acronyms than it would to admit your lack of understanding."

Besides, acronyms have another use besides streamlining conversation. They also help to demonstrate group identity. They are a means of communication among the initiated (for the member) and a means of obfuscation to the uninitiated (those not members of the group). This dynamic may seem a bit harsh but perhaps you should think of its other name--comradery. Instead of moaning and complaining about acronyms, why not ask what they mean and join in? Instead of "shaking your fist" at the group, join in.

I usually can get the gist of the meaning by how they are used in context.
Like how BMC is used in a sentence disparaging large brewing corporations.
Some are less intuitive like SWMBO = "she who must be obedient"
because in context most use it like "she who keeps my balls in her purse" and I could not make it fit :)

YMMV,:ban:

Broaden your horizons and learn something new. Get with the times or get left behind. I'm middle aged and not that hip on the new lingo but I sure do google the **** out of things I don't know. Seriously, What is a common acronym? I'm in the military. I can probably use a few commonly known acronyms that would have you wondering what the hell I was talking about.

An acronym is an abbreviation that makes a word. I haven't seen too many of those around here.

But as far as abbreviations, YMMV. BTW my SWMBO 86'ed my SS eBIAB MLT with PBW. It's NP because ATM I've got an AG RIS with high AA EKG and WLP002 in a 5g BB but I'm worried about HSA and DMS from a slow IWC (maybe get a CFC or PC?). But IMHO RDWHAHB! (PS: Asked the OG down at the LHBS about my FG and he said it was "A-OK for BJCP, AFAIK, with 11% ABV".) I'd link pics but the URL is a PITA.

Geez, another EAC thinking he's gonna change the forum.
I was thinking it was because he could find what EAC was :D
Hey OP (see what I did there?), I scanned back through some of your previous posts and you used the following acronyms:
psi
IBU
CO2BIAB
PPM
IPA

So either start saying "pounds per square inch," "International Bitterness Units," "carbon dioxide," "brew in a bag," "parts per million," and "India Pale Ale" or risk being labeled a hypocrite.

Note, I only looked at the first page of results on your posts, if I had time to go farther I think I probably could have found more.

And he didn't even do it right, the 2 is supposed to be subscript!

Brilliant. I understood every "word" of it.
