Secondary question

Hey all.
Brand new to the fun. My question is that there seem to be yeast globs floating about half inch beneath the surface in a uniform layer. not an extreme amount mind you but I can see them there. Is this normal. It's like there is two different densities in the beer. 10 days in the primary 7 days so far in the carboy. Also will the yeasties continue to ferment in the secondary even though according to the hydrometer it seems finished. There has been a continuous minimal amount of action coming from the airlock.

Welcome to the forums. The answer is yes. The yeasties will continue to chow down all that stuff and you will have a really clear beer. I had the same and all is well. I would also leave it in the secondary for at least another week, it will really clear up.

All is good. Dont be alarmed it isnt usually for what you are seeing to happen. You will get continued fermentation even when you move it to a secondary. Have it going on in two of my carboys right now.

I guess one other question that's been bugging me is how absolutely sanitary do you have to be. I realize the answer is very, but when I see videos of people outside under a tree chilling their wort and putting it in the fermenter I have to wonder about wild yeasts and bacteria getting into the mix. Just wondering I guess.

When Im brewing Im very careful with all my equipment being sanitized and my surfaces cleaned and free of and kitchen debris that could come into contact with anything. Ive never chilled outside but always take my wort to my basement to place my boiling pot into my utility sink and hook up my wort chiller and have never had a problem yet, Ive done 12 batches and all has been well.
