Just finished up my second batch of extract brew and it's crazy how much I learned from the first batch to the second...I'm sure each batch will be a learning experience. My first batch didn't turn out as well as expected probably because when I steeped my grains I didn't lift them in and out I the water like a tea bag which left me with very little color after steeping and then I squeezed the grains after done. Oh well I have high hopes for this next batch so we will see how it turns out. First batch was a Belgian witbier second is an amber ale.

Wouldn't expect much color from steeping grains in a witbier- when doing extract with grains I rarely take the bag in and out of the water. I'd expect that you will get more color contribution from steeping grains in the amber ale- probably have some crystal malt included- are you using a recipe kit from someone?

The witbier was a Midwest kit and amber is a Austin home brew kit.
