I was trying to remove the blow off tube, and the stopper was pushed in too far. Only thing near me was a screwdriver, and without even thinking I used it to pry out the stopper.
The scratch is at the very top of the opening, will never touch wort or finished beer. Should I toss this bottle, or will I be ok using it? Don't want any infections.

Thanks

Since it isn't where it would be touching any wort and since it is just a scratch you should be fine. I would just try to make sure that the scratch is thouroghly cleaned when you sanitize the bottle.

I have a similar scratch from when I loaned my BB to a friend for a brew and he inserted a paint mixer to aerate the batch. It's at the top of the neck, which isn't really a problem since I use a funnel to fill the beer and a racking cane to get the beer out. As I've seen in other threads, "bacteria can't crawl", so as long as you're not pouring wort or beer directly over the scratch, you should be fine.

IT IS FINE.

You siphon into that for secondary right?

Primary in a bucket.

No, it is a 6 Gal Better Bottle. I use it for Primary. Fill with a funnel.

Thanks for the quick replies, I will make sure I keep it clean. After each brew, I soak the BB over night with Oxyclean free. Does a great job.

Thanks again!

All of my better bottles have scratches around the top because of digging out stoppers. Haven't had a bad batch.
