I was going to do my first brew in a new house today only to realize the stove in this place isn't strong enough to get a half volume to a rolling boil. I broke the activator packet in the wyeast bag and am wondering if I could save it until I get a burner (probably tomorrow) in the fridge.

It'll be fine. The packet inside is just nutrients. Whether you smack it or not really makes very little difference. The main benefit of it is that is causes the yeast to become active, swelling the pouch, and letting you know that your yeasts are viable. Put it in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
