One of my friends gave me a mini fridge that I'm putting a tap into. I moved the cooling panel to a vertical position (read too many horror stories about bending it), and it still gets cold. I started to drill through the top and noticed that I nicked a copper wire. It is in direct contact with the outer metal frame, and does not appear to have any insulation, probably about 12-10 awg. I did my best to cover it with electrical tape, and the voltage detector does not register any current. The sides do get a little warm while cooling. Did I do something bad and I should scrap the project, or is everything ok? Any advice is welcome.

If it was just a copper wire - as in electrical wire - you should be fine. Make sure you repaired the wire if it was damaged, then wrap it up and move it out of the way so you can keep drilling.
