Its been over 24hours and no sign of active yeast yet. I did a starter but within the same day. Starter in the morning and pitch around 9pm. Is this normal?

Over 36 hours no sign. Is this bad? Should i pitch another one?

Can you share a little more information about your beer? It can take a little time to lag but I usually have activity quickly with ringwood.

Take a gravity reading and look to see if there's krausen, and check to see if your fermentation vessel has a tight seal in case co2 is leaking out from somewhere that's not the airlock/blow off tube.

Did you get enough yeast growth in the starter and did it have sings of fermentation in the starter (visible yeast increase, krausen, bubbling, etc...)?

If not then the yeast could of been dead (not viable), if you had growth in the starter then it may be a big co2 leak.

for those interested when I got back, I had more pressure in my bucket and notice a thin layer of krausen. the bubbling only started late at night. Overall it tool over 72 hours. I got another smack pack ready in case so I guess Im brewing again this weeken :)

cheers guys and thank you for the help
