I made a batch of brew yesterday:tank: and I saved the hops thinking I could reuse them in my secondary. Anybody ever done this before or heard of anyone doing this. Since I added a lot of hops at the end. I thought they would still have some juice left for the secondary:ban::ban::ban:

I was under the impression that your supposed to take the hops out for fermintation .I checked the forum and nothing applies to what I'm talking about. Their talking about using the hops from the secondary to brew I' m talking about using my brew hops for my dry hopping.

I doubt this would do anything other than add to the trub at the bottom of your secondary. The whole point of dry hopping is to add to aroma and those hops have already given all they can in that department.

People reuse late addition and dry hops as bittering hops because they still have AA that can be extracted during the boil.

Brewing hops have already had most of the volatile oils extracted. Adding them post-ferment won't do anything except risk contamination (unless you froze them). You can use dry hops as bittering hops for another batch. The alpha acids will still be there.

You can take them out or leave them in, it makes little difference in the brew as everyone has said it is used up, your late additions may have some AA left but very little aroma/flavor so there would be no use in using them to dry hop. I don't typically use a bag for hops, I usually whirlpool after chilling to leave as much trub behind in the boil kettle.

Thanks for all the info and help. I'm just trying not to waste anything . I'll toss em to my garden for fertilizer. Thanks again.
