Does anyone else find it difficult not to drink when you know you shouldn't (i.e. too much the night before)? All that delicious homebrew, sitting there teasing me with its sensuous bubbles, killer body, and the promise of great head. Can't drink every day,... or can I? Maybe a lesson from our German friends, who would often say: " I'm not drinking tonight, so I'll just have a beer."

I see no reason why you cannot drink everyday. Your liver may have a few issues!
I have a beer every day (very few exceptions). I do try not to have more than 4 during the week and then at the weekend it is open season. Even having two young children that make me get up when the sun comes up does not stop me. Take the hit of the hangover and power through. Ignore the pain / illness. It will go away. If people ask just say you are fine. My wife gets right fecked off at me for not getting hangovers. ...little does she know how I feel inside, gasping to get to work to put the coffee on and sit and read the news whilst the caffine works its goodness.
So yes, you can drink every day and I see NO reason why not.:rockin: :drunk: :rockin:

I have a problem drinking my homebrew... i can't stand to.... nothing wrong with the flavor except the fact i know it'll get better :D .... I'd drink 1 a day if i could, but ya gotta make it last, so like every other day....

I definitely need to start bottling in 12 oz. bottles...that or start kegging. Last night was a perfect example. I got done bottling my hefe and really wanted just a smidge of beer to relax for an hour or so before bed. But, the only thing I have ready is my honey wheat that I bottled in 32 oz. flip-tops. I know 32 oz. is probably a smidge to some but not for me. On the flip side, if I bottled in 12 oz. bottles I'd probably drink more cause I could have just "a" beer a lot more easily.

In general I don't drink during the week. However, tonight I'll be making an exception because I'm going to be working at cleaning out my new beer fridge. In general though I find that if I drink during the week it makes it too hard to get up for work in the morning. On Friday and Saturday nights I'll have anywhere from 1-4 beers each night.

I drink HB every day; probably average 2-3 pints per. Rarely do I drink enough to get to the point of hangover, though. On weekends and brew days I may have 8-10, but they're spaced out over 12+ hours.

That said, if I don't get regular exercise (bike or run every day), that level of consumption really puts on the weight! I lost 15 lbs in January, mostly by laying off the brew (I was out of HB :( ). About 5 of those have returned...

Unfortunately, me too. I have a beer every evening while I'm relaxing on the computer or sitting out on the deck. I bottle in 16 ounce Grolsch bottles, so that's just about the right amount.

Since I have a beer every day, though, I rarely feel the urge to drink more than 3 or 4 on the weekends anymore. Occasionally I'll have a beer while I'm out fishing then another one later on or if friends come over. I almost never over-imbibe.

Same here. Most evening I have a beer to relax and enjoy a good beer. On the weekend I might have 2 or 3 but seldom more than that.
I keep the gut from growing by cycling to work everyday. I'm not thin but I'm not gaining either.

Likewise...beer a day, couple on the weekends and lots of road cycling in between :ban:

there are times during the week, like yesterday where I stay up till 2, drink all evening/night with my buddies (whilst SWMBO is busy working overtime :D) and I know that I have a long weekend starting at 5 tonight, so I say f-it, drinking, and dealing with the possible hangover. Although I only feel like I haven't slept, not hung over (today).

I drink everyday, have the gut to prove it as well, but some days it is that refreshing HB, some days it's crushing cheap beers for the hell of it (I wonder when the guys and I will grow up) and other days it's going out to a pub and having a bunch of great craft/micro beers.

I dunno, do you feel functional all the time?

I ride my mountain bike 2 - 3 days a week. On those days I don't drink because I don't want to undo the good I just did.

On the days I don't ride I'll have 2 - 3 pints in an evening.

Umm, I'm not following the logic. How is having 2-3 the next day better than having 1 everyday?
My wife hasa logic something like this. When she works out she wants to eat lite, but is less concerned about it on off days. I on the other hand get hungry and thirsty after a good workout. After I get rehydrated with plenty of water I enjoy some good beer and good food.

There’s a reason I moved to kegging and doing 10-gallon batches…I like to drink beer all the time…

Now, I used to drink a lot of single malt scotch, vodka and dry red wine. I haven’t touched the “hard stuff” since last Christmas.

Besides, I can’t prove it scientifically, but I sure feel like those hopped up homebrews have an antioxidant effect.

I'm also a 'beer or two a day' type. I have to get up for work about 3 am, so I rarely ever drink more than 2 a night during the week. On the weekends, I've been known to kick back more than my share. Honeslty, though, I don't drink to get drunk anymore. Don't like that feeling the next morning!!!:drunk:

I try to keep beer to the weekend. you know thur, fri, sat, and sun. I do have a glass of Cabernet with dinner every night. Just kind of tradition.

EDIT - One caveat is that I adjust all my recipes to be 4.5% or lower. I like to drink cuz I like beer...not for the alcohol. Although that doesn't hurt. ;)

I like the link to all that "science" stuff, but I'm 6'6," 240 Lbs and I have a hard time believing that us larger folks are actually healthier drinking 3-4 beers/day. Then again, it's tough to argue with the cold hard facts.

I like to tell myself that I'll only drink on weekends, but I usually end up drinking 2 or 3 pretty much every weeknight. I work heavy construction. In the hot summer all I can think of is getting home and having a beer. On paydays we cash our checks at the casino and hit the bar before we even go home. Weekends I probably do a six pack a night. Special occasions I might do more! Sometimes SWMBO and I will have a glass of wine or two with dinner.

I like beer, bottom Line. I love the taste of beer, esp good homebrew, or good craft brews. I have a bit of a belly, but I'm overall pretty healthy.

I'm pretty sure my father in law doesn't like it much, but oh well!
:mug:

I drink one or two a night because the taste relaxes me. It soothes my soul knowing that the day is done. I think about that beer ALL day long - and even at times throughout the day I swear that I can taste that beer on my tongue. (Having 3 or more just puts me to sleep on the couch by 10; especially if the 3 are pretty high in ABV.)

Oh, walking 4 times a week tends to keep it off a bit, but the gut is winning.

I drink a little too much according to the science folks (3-4 pints a day). I work from home so I have plenty of opportunity.

But I quit somking cigs and the reef so I figure one outa three is pretty damn good actually :)

Maybe the start of this thread should be ammended to ask, and does the SWMBO give you Sh_T about it? Typically M-Th I drink about 2 beers every other day, but yah some days if the mood is right and I have a buddy or two over I may plow through a sixer myself. Especially if its a Friday. I usually don't drink to get drunk, but typically one day of each weekend I tie one on. The SWMBO thinks that I have some sort of problem. But I guess I'm asking the wrong audience!

I have that problem with SWMBO sometimes. If I go beyond the 2 limit I usually get the story about how alchoholism runs in her family. But that's NOT my family. This makes it VERY hard to even try and tie one on ever.

Solution - kegging.

I've gotten to where I can wander to my workshop for a "tool", draw a 4-5 Ouncer, wash up and bound back up the stairs with hammer in hand.

eh, I took the last 2 nights kinda slow after a the big wedding weekend....and probably tonight since I have to polish the resume. Now Tuesday, well, that is going to be totally different!

I'm one of those one beer a night guys--sometimes two. Weekends are about the same.

I have a fairly active lifestyle for a 43 year old--my beer intake has definitely gone up a bit since I started homebrewing, but my weight has not.

I also brew almost exclusively "moderate" alcohol beers, except for an occaisional tripel.

My doctor has assured me that this type of moderate, daily alcohol consumption is quite healthy, assuming it doesn't escalate to heavier drinking.
