I'm planning on brewing an Indian Brown Ale next. Any recommendations for the type of yeast I should use. I think i'm going to go with a British Ale Yeast, to match the type thats in Newcastle, however I've been told to use a California Ale Yeast (i think that's what it was) because it will bring out the flavor of the hops. What do you think???

I just bottled a british bitter pale ale with wlp005 british, i would have to say its hoppy and malty with a nice yeast character, just from the hydro sample,i have a good feeling about the yeast though, it even smells nice. It cleared well and attenuated decently but i did 4 weeks with a 1.04 and marris otter,if that makes a differnce.I got really bad brewhouse efficency for some reason. Should have been 1.05 and i just sparge rinsed instead of a 10 min sparge dunk .

you want a clean american ester profile and fermentation temp leeway? go wlp001, wy1056, us05.

you want megaflocculation and an english ester profile and you have good fermentation temperature control? go wlp002, wy1968, us04. you want more attenuation, there are other english strains.

west coast strains and english strains both generally are hop-friendly. it's the other factors you should consider when choosing between the two.

I've done two recently, one with us-05 and one with wyeast 1968. The 1968 was much better to me. Both were all late hopped and dry hopped with amarillo.
