I have been done 3 partial recipes after doing an extract as my first brew and just acquired all the equipment I need to go AG.

I am going to do 2 separate 5 gallon batches (different recipes), one recipe from the internet, and the 2nd I'll think up on my own, but always have trouble picking a recipe out. Anyone have a suggestion for the first AG batch of my career? I won't influence responses by including my beer preferences, whatever goes, I just hope to be inspired and find a great recipe.

Thanks. :tank:

my first all grain, i kept it [pretty simple. i just did a SMaSH beer with 10# Maris Otter and a few ounces of Cluster hops. A simple APA or IPA is always a good choice as well.

A bit of advice.... Don't try to re-invent the wheel. Keep it simple and use a proven recipe.
Remember, fermentation control accounts for about 90% of the taste profile!

Have fun!

You can do just about ANY style you want! Just stay away from German lagers that might have a multi-step decoction, and you'll be all set!

All the grains in a single infusion mash go in together, so it's no harder to make an oatmeal stout than an American amber, so make whatever sounds great to you! What do you want to be drinking in 6 weeks? Whatever that is- make that!

I can never choose what I want to drink, they all sound so appealing, so I just sit here for hours upon hours scoring recipes and never decide on one. I will probably go with an IPA.

oooooh, that's my favorite style! I have an IPA or two posted, if you want to take a look (under my recipes pull down under my avatar).

Make something you can't make as a partial. Maybe an IPA with Golden Promise, or an English Brown with Marris Otter. Or you can do a Dunkel with 95% Munich.

Thanks for the tip, I never knew people's recipes were under avatars, now that I do I have more time to burn on the site looking through everything. Once Simcoe is back in stock I think I will try your Lakefront IPA clone-ish, sounds good.

I just checked out doing a sub with Golden Promise and it looks like it'll work, I'm going to give it a try, thx for the idea.

I vote for a Bavarian hef. The yeast really shines, the ingredients are easy to get and temp controls aren't that big of a deal breaker since the banana/clove is part of the profile. Also they are darn tasty. Welcome to AG.

I would say a English Mild, or perhaps a SMaSH (single malt and single hop). I just did two SMaSH's, with one I just roasted a portion of the grain, both turned out spectacular. I am purchasing grains by the sack now, ALOT cheaper, and building up a stockpile of different grains....Buy a big sack of 2 row, and a pound of hops, roast your own grains, and use different hop schedules, concentrate on figuring out your equipment, maybe do same recipes but different yeasts....anyway, I am in the middle of a dunkleweizen so,,,good luck!
