I'm jumping back into brewing after 4 years away. I never really graduated beyond a beginner level brewer, having only brewed about 20 gallons. I need to ease my way back into this.
The first recipe I want to try to make (in the next month) is the recommended/famous EdWort American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale. It sounds right up my alley, so I'm getting enough ingredients for a second 5.5 gallon batch.
I'm not changing that recipe, but the amounts that the LME's come in are odd amounts (3.15# and 6# sizes). I will be left with 5 pounds of Extra Pale LME after making the second EdWort recipe.
Here's what I'd like to try - would it work and how do you think it will taste?:
5.5 Gallon Batch
5# Extra Pale LME
3.15# Munich LME
8 oz. Crystal 10L (steep)
Boil & Hops
1.0 oz Cascade 6.6% at 60 min.
0.5 oz. Cascade 6.6% at 30 min.
0.25 oz. Cascade 6.6% at 15 min.
0.25 oz. Cascade 6.6% at 5 min.
Safale US-05 dry yeast
Is this worth trying? Should I consider a different steeped grain, or a different kind of hops?
Essentially, it is the EdWort recipe with just a little less Extra Pale LME and about double the Munich LME.
