Recipe breakdown question

When reading the ingredients for a recipe that gives the various brewing methods (ie. all grain, extract etc), what are the 'Steeping Grains'? Are these to be included in the all grain bill? For example: Hoppiness is an IPA (Jamil Zainasheff) - This recipe has 1lb Crystal 15 & .25lb Crystal 40 listed under 'Steeping Grains', should these be added to the 12.75lb Two Row & .75lb Munich that are listed under 'All-Grain Option'?

Steeping grains are a way to get different flavors in extract brews. If you wanted a brown ale, instead of using dark malt extract you might use extra light and then add steeping grains to get the color and flavor you wanted. Doing all grain, those "steeping grains" are already included in the recipe.

But these 'Steeping Grains' are not listed under the 'All Grain Option', so this is where I'm a little confused. Should the steeping grains be added to the two grains listed in the All Grain section, if brewing this recipe as an AG batch?

Yes. The grains all go in the mash together. The two-row is in place of the extract, but you don't drop the specialty grains as they stay in the recipe for color and flavor.

Ok great, so the four different grains are used for the AG batch? I think this may be my next brew.

Yes as Yooper said. The book instructs you to replace the light extract with "x" lbs 2 row, replace the munich extract with "x" lbs munich malt, the rest of the grains not mentioned stay the same in all the recipes.
