I know you need about a quart of water per lb of grain, however does that include specialty grains? I am getting a mini mash recipe tomorrow; 2 lbs are base grains and 1 lb of specialty grains, should i use 3 quarts of water?

Usually it's 1.25 to 2 quarts of water per pound, and yes, it's all the grains. It has to do with mash consistency.

thanks guys that was really quick. i think i will use 1.25 to start off with see how that goes.
