Biggest HotD fanboi I know is keef. Dude has cases upon cases of their beer. abawol01 can confirm since he supplies them lol

waltersrj is hands down HotD fanboy #1.

Their QC issues are so terrible now that I'm afraid to buy bottles anymore. Blue Dot used to be one of my favorite beers (a hazy IPA before anyone cared about hazy IPAs) but even it has succumb to the bubble plague. I'd love to be proven wrong.

See? It's sick with the plague.

Random HotD beers have suffered from a lack of carbonation the last couple years. Started out mostly with special From the Wood batches, but Doggie Claws and Blue Dot have had similar issues on draft and in bottle lately. I had BD once at the brewery that was like wort they forgot to let finish fermentation.

Yeah, IDK how my buddy drinks them. He loves them though.

Oh word...I kinda thought that's what you meant. Bubble plague way worse than carbonation issues.

Beer has changed so much in 5 years. What were the 4 packs back then - $20?

Speaking of how things used to be, when was the last time any of you guys thought about Kate the Great? When was the last time anyone really cared about a non-barrel aged, non-pastry RIS?

People still go to Darkness Day, right?

Granted there's been barreled versions too.

The funny thing is the bottles of Doggie Claws that are sent to WA were totally flat a year or two ago while the ones in Oregon were carbonated just fine.

Alan infamously said "beer is more than just bubbles" on BA once, so I like to use the word when talking about HotD's issues. They're upfront now about certain beers lacking carbonation, but it still sucks.

If KtG was still going there is 0 doubt it would have become barrel aged and adjuncted to death. DBKtG would be a thing. Probably have barrel aged sets and everyone would **** on the tequila variant.

They were actually ahead of the time as I had a Double Oaked Kate the Great a few years back that was oxidized to hell, but one of the first "double barrel aged" beers I can remember.

Last couple years? It's been a problem forever with them, not the last couple years.

I couldn't remember when it started, so just went with "couple." I know it's been a while.
I can't remember a time when people weren't talking about carbonation issues with HotD beers especially the wood beers. Blue Dot has also had issues as long as I can remember. Not to say I haven't had some really good beers from them, but carbonation has never been a strong point.

Oxidized to Hell is almost certainly going to be the name of a beer in 2018. Probably from Wakefield or Veil. More appropriately it'll be the name of 2019 Wooden Hell that Flossmoor has just been sitting on for multiple years then it got too old.

am i crazy or is all this talk about how HOTD and Kate the Great, etc. "used to be" great sort of an awkward juxtaposition with the "new money is ruining beer by chasing the newest thing"?

maybe HOTD is having carb issues that drove people away, so perhaps a bad example.. but other breweries that plug along making the same beer that was hot/chased/great 5 years ago are now considered passe' by the very people saying that "new money" is ruining beer by chasing the newest/hottest/trendiest beer.... while they themselves are ignoring the great beers of just a few years ago.... because they're chasing the newest tick.

and thus the snake eats its tail while the snake is being eaten by a mongoose hellbent on destroying america

Well KtG stopped being made. I had always heard that Mott's plan was to remake it with a new name at his new place but hadn't ever heard that it had happened. Now that I know that it has... ISO Mott the Lesser.

I was picking up some Carton beers and saw some Industrial Arts so I bought whatever was actually canned this year (a couple of the Industrial Arts beers the store had were from 2017) when a worker saw me. He saw what I had in my basket and told me about a couple of beers they still had "in the back".

He got me an Industrial Arts Wrench and a Carton/Trillium collab. I guess it pays to spend time looking at the dates on cans like a nerd.
