I used to live in Evanston and never knew this...

There used to be a postcard "Evanston at Night" (it was just a black square). A lot has changed - there are now 4 breweries and a distillery there, but still no single beers (though I'm sure they sell 40s).

Mikkeller is dece. Most meh, some terrible, and a few bangers. Price point is definitely high though.

I lived in Willard Res College, named for Frances Willard, founder of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

Of course we held an insane Rager every year on her birthday Dormwide. Every floor was decorated all day, one floor my freshman year did an amazing super mario redecoration, and then when the time arrived, the entire school filled to drink our booze.

They shut it down my senior year.

I will never forgive Mikkeller for ruining what was one of my favorite bay area bars by turning it into a Mikkeller bar :(
RIP Trappist Provisions
Well I think the other option was for it to just close.

It's interesting to me that somehow the Trappist guys had a bar in that location close to closing, I'm honestly not sure how that could be possible.

Was that the reason they made that move? Kinda surprising as it consistently had good beer on tap and in bottles. I never saw it fully empty either.

That was the scuttlebutt.
Remember that South Park episode with scuttlebutt? It was a creature that had Bryan boytano for a leg or something. I didn't learn scuttlebutt meant rumors until I joined the military later.

This has been your drunk tangent post of the day.

Aaron & Chuck considered closing that location? Or is my sarcasm-detection way off?

I don't understand how that post could come off as sarcastic. My understanding around the time the switch happened is that if Mikkeller didn't take over they were going to have to sell/close/whatever.

Aaron and Chuck were running a wildly successful business that would fund retirement someday. They sold because why not.

Regardless. The Mikkeller place in the Rockridge is awful.

I would have been okay with it shutting down rather than turn into what it has.

I know that Perdition was definitely running at a huge loss before they closed it but I had no idea Provisions was a bust as well. Felt like the rebrand was in parallel with the Mikkeller take over of the old Alesmith brewery, had no idea it was a saving throw granted by Mikkel. Nice of him to do, but then again I've only been there once in the past year.
