If it's any consolation everything they send would probably be at least 4-6 weeks old by the time it got there just like it is up here in Mass.

I would find 4 packs of Double Jack (RIP) that were over a year old. Firestone stuff would sit in warehouses for months before seeing shelves around here.

My beef with Hazy IPAs is I find they all taste the same. But maybe I don't even palette bro.

Hundreds of brewers all brewing the same beer. Same hops, same malt bill, same water profile, same hop addition techniques, etc, etc, etc. Some cream does rise to the top (Trillium and some others), but I agree that most taste the same.

They all ******* collaborate all the time, too. I remember 6-7 years ago when collaborations were the new hot thing. Then they died down a little. Now, it's like a Hazy IPA brewer is incapable of getting through a brew day by himself. What's the point when they just brew the same beer each time? I swear my local hasn't had a release without a collab of some sort in the past two years.

Maybe that's why these can releases are $20 for a 4 pack now. Gotta cover the Travel, Meals, and Entertainment of the visiting brewery.

umad?

I'm wearin' a kimono, dawg.

I had literally just read that my local's next release included a collab with something called Horus Aged Ales. I don't even know what these places are anymore. I'm almost like tosh, except I don't know if I'm beyond. Maybe just "at" reproach.

I'd take 4-6 week old Firestone over the almost-year-old Sierra Nevada I found recently
Yeah it's still totally fine but I just don't see why it takes so long to get here.

It's an easy way to create hype for your ****** beer.

How do you think these breweries like trillium and treehouse can go from small little production breweries to big ass warehouse complexes in a few years?

20 dollars per 4-pack on site.

Charge as much on site as you would in a store (if not, more) therefore cutting out the distribution middle man, and bam, profit.

That's how.

I definitely don't blame them for chasin' that paper. Charge whatever the masses will spend.

The collabs are dumb as **** though.

Are we just going to ignore the fact that 99% of beers within a style all taste the same? This is not unique to hazy IPAs. You're going to have exceptional examples, and you're going to have ****** examples, and then everything else falls into pretty much the same flavor profile, whether you're talking about hazy IPAs, porters, or Belgian golden ales.

I swear, beer people are worse than fans of a band who have a successful single on the radio.

I think when the West Coast Style IPAs were the rage, that the differences were there. Did many taste the same? Absolutely.

Maybe it's because 1) Brewers weren't as good back then and 2) There wasn't as much focus on water chem. Even the hopping techniques were different across the board.

Now, I feel like people know the basics to make a NEIPA, and are all following that template. Who knows though. I'm talking out of my ass, which is my norm.

Perhaps but 60 Minute IPA, Two Hearted Ale, Liberty Ale, Sierra Nevada Celebration, Jai Alai, Hop Devil, Lunch (to name a few) don't all taste the same.

straining to recall the last time beer people liked a "new" style or beer

maybe.............Olympia? Black Label?

Same as with barrel aged stouts, they like them until the unwashed masses start to like them, and then they aren't cool anymore.

Back in the BA days there was this guy in the Midwest thread who would always be like "16 dollar four packs of Abrasive? 8 dollar bombers of PseudoSue? 18 dollar bottles of Darkness? You silly kids. Why, I just purchase Summit Saga for 12 dollars a 12 pack. It's just fine. It's basically all the same to me." Yeah, great, that's fine, but why constantly bring that up on a hobbyist site? It's like the "I don't have a TV" people. Or this guy:

I really liked the Black IPA trend that lasted for a minute. I wouldn't mind seeing more of those made again. Maybe I should take this to the unpopular opinions thread?
I liked them a lot at first, and I'll still drink one once in awhile. But given a choice I'd generally always take a regular IPA. Maybe I need to give them another shot.

This and wookey were two exceptions to the rule that black IPAs are ****
Surly/FFF/Real Ale Blakkr is pretty good. Furious Black is worth trying. Indeed has a double black IPA, Haywire, that is almost like a really nice barleywine. They hit the balance just right on that. Wookey and Black Top are solid.
