Good for him. I can't stand Jeppe or Mikkel, but if some homie is going to **** all over my beer and not even be literate enough to spell his criticisms properly, dude she get called out for it.

If Jeppe was going all-in on just getting a negative review, the hell with him. But that awful mispelling from the e-cerone deserves the hammer.

Wonder if there's some booteric acid too
Good for him for looking like a whiny child because someone didn't like his beer? Ok then.

Also, you have a typo in your post making fun of someone not spelling a word correctly. :)

I have this weird thing where words like should magically become she. Gets me every time.

It doesn't bother me. If I held Jeppe in any sort of esteem maybe I'd agree with the whiny child angle, but since he's already in the basement, not much lower to go.

Dude made three memes because someone misspelled a word. I think that's pretty low even for him.

I'm not going to disagree with you. I think the power that anonymous e-reviewers have on a person's livelihood needs to be reined in from time to time. It's not as big a problem with untappd or beer reviews (yet), but the power negative reviews on Yelp (blech) have, without any sort of system to confirm the accuracy of the review, is the worst. If the guy doesn't know how to spell diacetyl, I question the veracity of his claims and his palate.

Small picture: shut up Jeppe. Big picture: shut them up, Jeppe.

BIG, you guys.

I hate that I really would like to grab a bottle of the 86 Alexander (although since a few of these turned up all of a sudden my provenance radar is going off...).
I wouldn't take one from in the states personally either...If it came directly from across the pond sure i'll take the risk. Still the chance of it being a drain pour is pretty high. Not that it matters since the price of admission for those bottles really isn't that high to begin with.

The article and the more complete picture painted on Facebook are pretty different. The article makes it seem as though he's just posting some funny fake labels riffing on a typo from a negative untappd review, which would be fine. On Facebook though, there are some comments attached where he and Wayne from Cigar City come off as really petty ********. Now, realistically the number of people who are going to take notice is quite small, and the number who'll care will be even smaller. But it certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not local to CCB, so I can't express my disapproval by not giving them business, but I can stop buying Evil Twin beers, and I'll give that some serious consideration, because there are enough brewers who don't behave like children that I can allocate my finite beer dollars towards.

I think I have more magnums of beer than actual friends.

I wish things in my life right now were a little different and I was able to buy that ~50oz TB megasnifter. Drinking all of my magnums out of said megasnifter would have been my first order of business.

I am glad I didn't think of this or I'd have one big, dumb glass now.

Looking now.

Brewers should shut their mouths about untappd feeds. "Oh people don't like my beer because they don't even understand the style"... yeah no ****. How dare they not take your feelings and BJCP into account when rating something for themselves.

Also, maybe investigate the source of the diacetyl, Jeppe?

I just don't understand how they can manage to care so much, and I say this about brewers I like (and even friends of mine) who complain about it. It's ****** crowd-sourced data, and moreover there is a lot of it. You don't like the rating someone gave your beer on Untappd? Good thing it uses a Bayesian weighted rating scale, and that one review is going to be one of hundreds (or thousands) of data points and therefore have a minuscule overall contribution to the rating.

The thing that really gets me is the sheer arrogance. Yes, you're a brewer, and so presumably have more technical knowledge than the average consumer rating you on Untappd. That doesn't make your end product good, and it doesn't mean that somebody is wrong for giving it a poor rating. Lashing out is especially absurd given that most people use Untappd to keep track of their personal consumption habits, not as some elaborate plot to take down a globally successful brewery like Evil Twin. The tone they take at times reminds me of the controversy years back when there was a thread on Probrewers (which got deleted following the **** storm that spread across the beer community) when a few brewers, most notably the guys at Bluegrass and Evolution Craft, were bitching about how BA reviewers knew nothing about beer, and how they didn't like BA users as customers. Even if you believe that, or hell, even if it's true, it isn't sensible to insult such a large subset of current and potential customers.

A look through any competition results/medal table will show that the industry as a whole doesn't really give a **** about labelling a beer one thing, while entering it in comps as a different style. No one ever says jack about that. That's ok though, because it's the consumer being misled?

The stories I've heard about FOBAB (Festival of Barrel Aged Beer) in Chicago every year always make me sad when it comes to the state of judging in professional beer competitions. While BJCP gets its fair share of **** (deservedly so), I've generally had good interactions when talking beer with folks at homebrew competitions who are actively trying to judge to style.

In more positive talk, how about some props for Bells who produces lots of affordable great options in packaged format (Two Hearted, Expedition Stout, Best Brown, Oberon, Third Coast and Porter jump off as great examples of classic styles), but also has 35 options on at the Eccentric Cafe in the heart of the "off" season in Kalazmazoo.

Also offering multiple pour sizes for all your offerings is another way to my heart.

Also whenever you think your local brewery is producing a lot of beer on their 7 / 15 / 30 bbl system, remember what the folks at Lagunitas (in Chicago) are doing.

We still can't get Sucks fresher than 1 month old from 2 states away then we could from Cali. However, that born again yesterday was legit and only a few weeks old.

It baffles me how dumb I am wasting good $ on shipping beer in when I can crush 12ers of Oarsman by the pool all year.
There's a lot to be said with the consistency you can expect from Bells too. Freshness is the only concern...wish I could say that about CCB/Cycle/Angry Chair/etc.

Sucks is the perfect name for that beer. It's good fresh, but every time you buy a 6er, it sucks.

~4 years ago it was amazing, honestly one of the best IPAs on the market both on draft and in 6-packs (which were showing up here fresh). I think they must have messed around with the recipe or gone through a scaling issue, because ever since they went through that phase where they put it in 32oz bottles before bringing back 6ers, it hasn't been remotely the same. The amazing hop character it had is seemingly mostly gone.

All I know is that this whole kerfuffle is making me kind of want to create a bunch of fake Untappd accounts and use them to spam negative, poorly written reviews of Evil Twin beer. Too bad I'm so lazy.
