A group of ~8 friends and I went to Russian River this past year on super bowl Sunday to try PtY. Got in line about an hour before they opened. We would have gotten in with the first wave no problem had we gotten there half an hour earlier, which was the goal but some people took far too long getting ready.

It took another two hours after they opened to get a table for 8 inside(understandably). I think there was a 3x 10oz pour limit on PtY. After having two glasses, I was really underwhelmed. Obviously it can't live up to the hype. Anyways, compunction (their pluot sour) was way ******* good so I ended up mostly having that. It was a fun experience but not something I would wait in line for again.

I'd also like to note that the people working at the taproom/restaurant felt bad that it took so long to seat us, so they let us stay close to 3hrs, even though all tables had a 2hr limit to keep the line moving. Russian River are good people. Maybe not with how they handle releases however (see Beatification)

I had PtY the last year Russian River was still in WA (2012). Super easy set up at a local bottle shop where you bought a $8 ticket in advance and showed up on the day of. They had PtE on tap and bottles as well for everyone who wanted them. Even had plenty of PtY leftover for anyone who showed up blindly. I was in and out in probably 35 minutes.

The beer was good, but a victim of hype like everything else.

“For too long Wall Street has gambled with your money. **** Wall Street. With Big Bet, we are putting you in the driver’s seat.”

"If the bet is successful, BrewDog will double the capital it has raised from the investors that opt in, and the investors double their stake in the business. If the bet is not successful, investors still keep the benefits of being an Equity Punk investor, including a lifetime discount on the beer, but their shares are returned to the company"

**** Wallstreet?

**** Brewdog

I'd like brewdog to explain to me the times Wall Street has gambled with my money. Whatever the **** that means.

They are literally gambling with your money. So they say **** Wall Street for gambling with my money, and then offer to gamble my money, at the expense of getting discounts on their ****** beer, and saying oh well, your money is ours now if you lose

I can't even.

dvelcich had a growler of Pliny the Younger sent to him back in the day when they still offered growlers of it at Russian River (2008?), but it would still be a few months until we knew each other so he ended up soloing the growler himself.

I'm still jealous of that glorious decision.
If only that's how it went down. My wife's cousin who works for an airline got two for me, and instead of being a freak and running to her apartment to grab them, I patiently waited until a family party that Saturday. Unfortunately, her roommate and friends, after draining their supply of Bud Light during a Friday night party, killed both. They said they tasted terrible.

I had a vague outline of the story and went with it.

And to think I used to have a really good memory...

Plants and fungi often produce toxic secondary metabolites that limit their consumption [1-4], but herbivores and fungivores that evolve resistance gain access to these resources and can also gain protection against non-resistant predators and parasites [3, 5-8]. Given that larvae of the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster consume yeasts growing on rotting fruit and have evolved resistance to yeast fermentation products such as ethanol [9, 10], we decided to test whether ethanol protects fruitflies from one of their most common natural parasites, endoparasitoid wasps [11-13]. Here, we show that exposure to ethanol reduces wasp oviposition into fruitfly larvae. Furthermore, if infected, ethanol consumption by fruitfly larvae causes increased death of wasp larvae growing in the hemocoel and increased fly survival without need of the stereotypical anti-wasp immune response. This multi-faceted protection afforded to fly larvae by ethanol is significantly more effective against a generalist wasp than a wasp that specializes on D. melanogaster. Finally, fly larvae seek out ethanol-containing food when infected, indicating they use alcohol as an anti-wasp medicine. Although the high resistance of D. melanogaster may make it uniquely suited to exploit curative properties of alcohol, it is possible that alcohol consumption may have similar protective effects in other organisms.

Yup, this is why I drink a lot. Ward off the damn wasps.

Yes, which I still don't understand. I've never had an issue obtaining any of the cans I've wanted to try merely by stopping by on my way home from work, usually no earlier than 6:30. I guess some have sold out before then, but there's always at least something. Some people got more time than sense.

Spend lunch driving to the ferm > work from the ferm > no wait for cans > go home.

Only done it a couple times but I'm definitely not the only one doing it (my friend almost weekly)

I think there should be a product out there that is a glass/pyrex coaster sleeve that seals shut, so I could actually use my cantillon coasters. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

****, that's actually a good idea. I can't find anything though.

Meanwhile, scored an invite to this and I'm legit excited. Never been to a TGIFs (not really a thing here). We've been drunk enough a few times to be like "**** it, let's go in for the lols..." then seen the $40 steaks and been "hahahah nope".

Providence craft beer! handcrafted range! I can only imagine how bad it's going to be and I am excited.

I like the version Gonzoillini told better.

I'm honestly not sure anything "beats" people camping out overnight at Monkish. Even though I'm kind of over that sort of thing now, I can understand getting in line really early or even partly overnight for really limited releases. But lining up overnight for ******* IPA cans?

Possibly the only thing dumber I can recall was last year (? could have been 2 years ago) when some guys lined up at LP Binny's for the Black Friday BCBS release...on Wednesday afternoon.

EDIT: the Pliny The Younger line at Russian River is high up there on the stupid scale.
The Monkish thing is especially stupid because they buy cans and completely skip out on their other stuff - I'd argue that Monkish is making some of the low-key best AWAs in California. It'd be like if SARA started canning Simpleton and people stood in line for that over Bernice or West Ashley.
