Yea I have been to many shares where I literally don't have time to open bottles that would be highlights of the share. I guess I' ok with that. In terms of large shares, if it is one of those "open 50 ft table with ice buckets" deals, then once its in the ice bucket, consider it gone. I tried to chill a plum fruitstand in those buckets at a certain big NC share and I look back less than 30 seconds later and the bottle is in some dudes hands, half of it is gone, and its obv still room temp. Lesson learned.

reaching in to a cooler seems to be a line crossed but otherwise.. put a bottle on the table.. expect it to get drank.

my opinion is it's a "share" not "let me show off this beer to everyone so they can see how awesome I am.. and i will open it at the appropriate time so as to achieve maximum credit and appreciation for my largesse."

i get the "5 man bottle share..... there are 186 bottles here... dey ain't all gettin drunk today" thing. that happens.
Man...
I went on a trip a few years back. We all pitched in 100 bucks or something, like 12 of us on a big ass van, got a driver and tickets for Brandy Huna. It turned into a bottle share on the way there and back of course, we had two coolers and everyone had beers in each one.

Well we are on the way back finally, everyone's pretty sauced. I go looking for this beer in the cooler that I brought and this ******* guy flips out. Says he's going to break my arm and ****... I told him I was looking for a bottle I brought and he said it was in the other cooler.

So yeah, I experienced some wrath for reaching into a cooler.

I think the issue is more when you're at some huge bottle share and someone snakes your bottle and it's gone before you can even get a pour for yourself. I agree that if a bottle hits a communal table it's fair game. I was at a big share a few months ago in Raleigh where there were a ton of communal ice chests on the table (that contained some really good beer, hardly shelf turd city), and most attendees also had bags and coolers off to the side. The etiquette was pretty simple: if it's on the communal tables it's up for grabs, but don't take things out of other people's private coolers. Of course that (allegedly from what I heard, didn't happen to me) didn't stop some people from digging through others' bags and helping themselves...

Funny story from our Huna Day pool share: I transported down a bunch of nice bottles for Fahmie25 so he didn't need to check them on the plane. Went to Cycle BA Day and left them with my buddies (who didn't have tickets) with the instructions to chill them for the share but not let them get opened, since they weren't mine. Well at some point Fahmie25 pulled one out of the ice buckets and, not knowing who he is, they were on him like a hawk. We had a good laugh about it after it was sorted out. He was very appreciative that I had been protective of the bottles he'd entrusted to me. :)

was there a bong in the car?

not a funnel

I've been to large shares where people have brought the same beer (different vintages) & when one of them grabbed their bottle to open the other one accused him of taking his bottle unauthorized. He felt pretty stupid when he realized the reality of the situation. It involved two people on this website & was ******* hilarious.

Meh I probably overreacted last night, but there was tons of open beer on the table. Getting pours of open bottles is fair game. Opening other people's bottles is not. I took my eye off my bottle for like 30 seconds and barely got to taste it as a result. Not cool.

TalkBeer. I used to think that this website's and other related fourm's main purpose was to promote the advocacy and awareness of craft beer among like-minded enthusiasts. After dedicating countless hours and several years to this cause, I've come to the conclusion that TalkBeer is basically Tinder for alcoholics.
You trying to ****?

People get shot over drugs / drug transactions / drug mishaps every day. I'm not sure when the first beer tasting related shooting will occur, but I'm pretty sure I know where it will occur.

Florida.

You trying to ****?

Thank goodness. Beer is dumb. Most people are awesome. I know, I keep touching tips.

to bring it back on topic, what's the point of bringing beers to a bottle share if you're not going to... open them?
At the same share I mentioned above we experienced a similar experience. An out of towner pulled out a legit "check out how big my dick is" bottle out of his cooler, showed it all around, got us fully edging & then put it back in his cooler never to be seen again. He's earned a special nickname with our crew. He's also on this website.

Bottle shares seem like something I'd never want to attend. They actually sound downright miserable.
They are when it's a bunch of ***** who only care about the bottles being opened. When it's your actual friends it's fun, and nobody gives a **** about who opens what.

I can honestly say that I have never been to a share like this. Even the share at cosmicevan's house was about the people. GuisseppeFranco, ant880 and a bunch of cool people that I got to meet. Was probably the highlight of my NY trip.

I guess I miss out on all the action as I have no idea who any of these people are you are talking about... wait, is it me?
