Oh, I expect Jack's Abby to be going national, or at least greatly expand their distribution foot print, in the very near future. Their rapid expansion pretty much forces them to since they're making more than enough product for their existing market.
That would be great. Although the prices would probably be terrible by the time it got out here...

I'm moving soon. I've been fortunate enough to live in a building that has an office so that all my packages can get signed for, etc. I'm not 100% sure yet if that'll be true going forward.

People who live in apartments and who don't have such a luxury: how do you trade, etc.?

At our old condo, packages were left at the front desk and the caretakers signed for them and called to let us know we had a delivery or sometimes they'd bring it up.

You can always have them held at FedEx for pickup as well, aalthough then you have to go pick it up.

literal crapshoot based on your apartment. my current apartment has a keypad entry to the lobby and the fedex guy knows the code so it's no problem, but i know of some buildings that can't receive packages unless the super is there, or other ****** rules like that (but a lot of times because the fedex driver is the same they will have a key to the front entrance to drop the package). easiest alternative as someone mentioned (if you're close enough obviously) is just to set all packages to be picked up at a fedex store. there's a shitload of them around the city so decent chance you live close to one.

Deliver to work an option?

Sadly, no.

Yeah I'm thinking this seems the likely course of action. I'm contemplating getting a roommate in order to have a doorman building, but I feel like that may make me less happy overall. If I instead get a freaking wheeled cart of some form, I could probably deal with FedEx stores. Without wheels, sometimes these packages are way too large.

Make sure your trading parters are checking the shipper release box so the delivery driver can leave the boxes if able (unless they have a habit of leaving them outside, of course).

Currently I live in a building with a callbox that dials a phone number, so I've got an automated system set up where I can set a flag if I'm expecting a delivery and the callbox will say "please leave package inside" and buzz them in. Only issues so far have been with packages I've needed to sign for.

You can also get accounts at mailbox-type shops for package receipt, I know a few people who do a fairly large trade volume that have taken this approach. As you note this does require going and picking it up, which can be a hassle.

I'd say it depends on the building too. I live in a single family house, and I make sure packages are left inside the fence or porch. I didn't always. If you rent a place that's a duplex or fourplex that would probably work. It's generally not your immediate neighbors you usually have to worry about, but rather the random passerby.

Also, I work in a building that is half offices and half condos, and I see packages by the apartment mailboxes (inside) all the time. Seems to be fine.

FedEx hold at location is clutch. Helps when the wife doesn't want to see anymore beer or boxes.

Yeah at my place in Brooklyn everything was left to chance. They wouldn't leave anything on the front steps regardless of what you checked off. They'd ring all three apartments and if someone was home to let FedEx in then your package got left inside. After three tries I'd call FedEx and have them hold it and go pick it up (which is not fun in NYC where nobody has vehicles)

Mmmmm beer...

If I read this correctly, you are thinking about moving in order to make beer trading easier? Please tell me I'm wrong.

You're wrong.

I'm moving. Period. From Houston to NYC.

In Houston money goes very far and I have a lovely luxury apartment in the best possible location and I love it.

In NYC, for the same price, I can get a lot less. So I'm contemplating whether I do a very small 1BR in a meh building that at least I'd be alone in, or if I do a nicer, doorman building with a 2BR and a roommate. Both end up around the same cost. One of the things I'm factoring in in my decision is packages. Other things are my bicycle, potential dishwasher availability, proximity to friends, work, bars, etc. Packages is just one of the factors.

Make sure you leave room in your budget for monocle polish!

Carrie Bradshaw faced the same predicament!
