Recently in one of the razzle groups I'm in there was a group bitch thread about FedEx locations not accepting boxes packaged in the free (and also ******) USPS flat rate boxes. So, you flip a bottle for several hundred dollars but can't spare $2 for a new box??

it's almost as if beer flippers are horrible people.

People like me: I won't buy Goose Island anymore because it's owned by ABinBev.

Thinking about this Utopias keg business, I seem to remember one of the talking points of Utopias early on was that oxidation would add complexity over the lifetime of the bottle.

If so, is the correct serving method a party pump?

Correct serving method is from a beer bubble which I hope they have planned.

On a more serious note I was discussing this Utopias keg with a co-worker and we were trying to figure out who is going to buy this? Is it for special events with Sam Adams reps? Will any bar be able to get one? How much is a keg? How much of a pour and how much would it cost?

A bottle of Utopias costs somewhere between $160-200 and it's 24oz. That's like $8 an ounce at max. Will places charge $20 for a two ounce pour and you get to keep the glass? A growler for $512?

Really looking forward to see how this is rolled out.

I seem to recall a bar around here that once offered Utopias from the bottle at $15 for 1oz pours, no parting gift. If you're curious to try it and your only other option is to chase down a bottle at a liquor store and hope to only pay $200, that's not a hard price to swallow. And at a bar that focuses on craft beer and rare/premium whisk(e)y a product like Utopias could do reasonable well. Too bad those places probably won't be considered because those are the kinds of places that don't sell any other SA products!

Since this is Boston Beer's only prestige product I would guess that if any kegs do get filled they will be primarily for the SA taproom, festival appearances (FoBAB, Extreme Beer Fest, etc.) and maybe a few top SA accounts who think they might be able to sell it.

$160 was the CostCo price for 2017, MSRP was $200.

Have always thought of Xyauyu as a better and significantly cheaper alternative to Utopias (yes, I know it's much lower in ABV and I suppose a different style), maybe only because they can both be recorked and enjoyed for months.

FWIW, Xyauyu is the beer I'd rather drink. My experience with Utopias has been mixed. The 10th anniversary batch was really, really good. The following release tasted like drinking an old woman's perfume.

But really, the biggest difference is that Teo and the gang never splurged for national TV commercials for Xyauyu.

I can think of several beer bars in upper-middle class neighborhoods around me that have 40+ taps, half of which are IPAs, that would be perfect for this. Yeah, that tap won't roll over for awhile. Does it really matter in the grand scheme of your redundant ass taplist?

Meanwhile still plenty of New England 16oz cans to be had on eBay.

Not to mention both MBC's. I'm sure at least one of them will see an uptick in activity thanks to this crackdown.

What I'm wondering is if new sites/forums will pop up to fill the void, particularly among the razzle crowd who need the gambling model to move high value items.

And dummies that like gambling on beer...

I mean I guess I gamble on Fantomes and questionably aging lambic, but you know what I mean
