Currently, what is the oldest beer in your house?

Facebook reminded me that 10 years ago today I bought a case of Guinness' 250th Anniversary Stout. I actually still have one bottle around for I guess novelties sake.

But I believe the oldest beer I have in the house is a 2007 Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine.

1994 Triple Bock. Last bottle. I wish I had more.

Is that the new beer offering from the Sackler family?

Oldest beers in the cellar are 78 Hardy’s, couple of 90s Hardy’s, 00 Samichlaus, then some early aughts Lambics and Lees.

Also making a hard left turn, this is real

I'm pretty sure they have this at Omnipollo but the ingredients on the dart board come from a full season of 'Chopped'.

The 2011 through 2015 or so probably tastes ******* awesome. That beer ages like a champ.
So we did this today. 2011 vs 2018.

Right off the bat the color is totally different. Fresh one has a drier finish, crisp carbonation, stonefruit/citrus hop character. Blind I would have thought this was around 10%, super drinkable for 17% and not too sweet, I liked it a lot.

The other one smelled wildly different, flavor was straight up raisins, prune, vanilla, honey, caramel. Definitely a bit oxidized but not papery, it melded really well with the other characteristics. Very reminiscent of a port wine. Still has some bitterness but no distinguishable hop character.

Overall a fun comparison, I think the 2011 is past its prime but it's still doing well (better than I remember last year's). Thanks for tuning in, I'll be back with another 120 Minute review next year.

Should have posted in the barleywine thread for maximum jimmie-rustling.

Philly has a Harry Potter festival every year and they have had no issues.

Well I lied...I guess there were eventually some issues.

Wizardry and wonder fill the air each October when Chestnut Hill transforms for Witches and Wizards Weekend.

Formerly the Harry Potter Festival, the Witches and Wizards festival weekend takes over the charming neighborhood for spellbinding events that morph the village into an enchanting magic-filled haunt.

I think that's the same people.... if you actually go to their Facebook page it's called the 'Witches and Wizards Festival'.

What really bored me is that they say that they'll have "OVER 20 MAGICAL ALES" and they're selling themselves (at least locally here) more as a beer festival than anything else.

Bitch there's bars around here that are free to get into that have over 200 MAGICAL ALES. ;)
