Beer of the Year (2016):

d7a3ae5506817d1ef60dabde37150fe9.jpg

Beer of 2016 (in terms of best representing the year) has to either be one of those Tired Hands Milkshake IPA deals (turbid ass IPA with a bunch of **** added to it), or some really limited BA adjunct stout surrounded by all sorts of secondary market shitlordery.

This is way better than what I had in mind. Let's just do this again. And if MordorMongo won't do it, is there somebody else cranky enough that is also completely out of ***** to give that can do it?
Well I can safely say should I do a 2016 version you are a front-runner!!

Lymi.

Happy Chanukah

Has anyone made a great beer prominently featuring the hop formerly known as Equinox? It's the new Summit, in my experience.

I've found that Equinox has a really nice resiny / dank character that is similar to Simcoe with a bit more citrus. I'm really sensitive to the garlic thing that Summit throws (Gubna, ugh...) and I don't get that at all with Equinox.

Assuming you've gotten that character from Equinox hopped beers before?

The fact that product is still on the shelf years after they stopped distributing it there, should indicate the reason they stopped distributing there.

FYI Bear Republic is distro'ing again in TX... at least in Austin? (Not sure elsewhere)

I saw Racer 5 at a bar a couple weeks back and was like "WTF?"

Yeah, I get a mix of resin and onion/garlic. It was also early since initial release, though. Took brewers awhile to figure out mosaic, too.

I'd love it if they made it back out to SC. I used to buy Racer 5 and Hop Rod Red regularly, and one of the bars in town (which somehow manages to have a worse taplist in 2016 than it did in 2012, go figure) used to have a fresh keg on almost all the time.

While we're still on the subject of old beer on shelves I still see bottles of Coney Island Lager on Austin shelves in some places TO THIS DAY...

... That brewery hasn't even existed in 3+ years (it's since been relaunched as a hard root beer brand)...

I also knew places up till about 2012 that still had Allagash on shelves... who stopped distro in Texas in 2008.

And Boston Beer wonders why they are losing money.

Pretty sure the first half of that is false, Coney Island is still selling their lager.

Edit :Yup and a few other beers. Still sits on the shelves near me, but it is distributed and brewed
