I know they are trying to sell a CO2 pressure transfer deal but I’m curious if anyone else is using this conical and how they go about racking fermented beer to a keg without that device. Or is that the only way that makes sense? I don’t mind shelling out $100 but if I don’t need to I won’t.

Shameless plug, but we sell a Tri Clover to corny post adapter that clamps to the top port that would allow you to do pressure transfers. Our adapter doesn't come with a corny post so you would need to buy that separately, but other vendors sell those or your local homebrew shop probably has them. Our adapter doesn't have a pressure gauge on it, but if you have a co2 setup already with a regulator it will work great.

Yes to above. I use similar, a Tri Clover to barb-tail to do closed keg transfers and to also purge the keg to begin with works well. Simple as and you don't need to use CO2 to achieve it, just gravity and 20 minutes or so. Lay the keg on its side with business end propped up on a pair of boots or something, liquid to liquid, gas to top of fermenter (gas post up) until its fill or there's beer in the gas line. I usually run some out into a 500ml coke bottle and force carb it for an early taster at some stage.

I'd swap my barb out for a TC with keg post as it'd be easier and have less risk of significant O2 getting into the lines changing over. If you're smart you can purge your lines during the ferment too.

Also, I wish I'd just bought all gas connects and swapped my liquid posts out on the kegs to simplify EVERYTHING.

Heres a link to one of my other posts. Showing how I collect co2 & keg from the conical. It's probably a similar technique to how Smudgey does it.

Update : sorry if this is a bit late but I've just noticed the date of your post.
