Quick question for the kegging master...

So i got three empty kegs hooked up, i have three connectors not hooked up....i haven't poured anything for two days (sadly drinking watered down homemade rum and whiskey)...


My scale i keep my co2 tank on went from 43lbs 1.2ozs....to 43lbs 0.9ozs over two days.....lol, where would such a minor leak be most common @day_trippr ?


i know i've been told i'm annoying, i hope this is more comical though..... (side note, my orings are all pretty fresh but, how often should PRVs be replaced? think these are 20 years old)

edit: damn, you gave me a thought just from your spirit...after venting a keg and some 'splash' through the PRV, now i'm wonder how often i should pull them out and wash the hole empty.....a leak like this would cost me 3.5lbs of co2 over a year!

I'm gonna take a shot at the one part of that I could comprehend: stick the unconnected connectors in a bucket of water and see what happens.
I'm assuming there's no shutoff-equipped manifold in the path...

fwiw, there were four different leaks in this assembly. Finding them post-installation would have been a nightmare at best.
I always dunk test as much of any new or rebuilt gas system as possible because it simply can't be beat...

btw, that's an old picture. All of the beer and gas tubing in my house is now EVAbarrier with a ton of PTC fittings. And I dunk tested all of that, too

This works best if you have full rubber corny keg tops: if you're convinced you have a leaky keg that still has beer in it but just can't pin down which or where, you can create a "pond" of sorts atop the keg by wrapping it up with duct tape, and filling the pond with Star San mix. As long as the keg is still pressurized the sanitizer solution won't get inside the keg, and as Star San has that foaming component it's pretty good at showing where leaks/bubbles are.

If there's a PRV leak, a lid leak, or even a post O-ring not sealing tight to a gas QD, you'll see it immediately...

damn, that's one hell of a good idea....i just ordered a 5 pack of new PRVs, seemed pricey at $15...but oh well...


and once again, thanks for putting up with my inarticulate text.....i think of you as the "Keg Kid" and couldn't think of who else to tag for a tip or two....

edit: i only lost 3 tenths of an ounce over two days though...not sure if it would bubble?

If there's a leak, it'll bubble. The question is how long you'll stare at it to see it bubble

LOL, but you managed to still have a sense of humor! and i've seen your pictures of your LCD tap read-out...I bet your grand kids would get a kick out of it more then you! it'd be like a cell phone game....

Great idea on taping the holes around the top of the keg.
I am going to test that approach tonight on a keg I am having issues with.
