I just made some apple pie.

I'm trying to figure out what proof or % or alcohol is in it.

Here is the recipe:
1 gallon apple cider
1 gallon apple juice
3 cups white sugar
7 cinnamon sticks
1.5 liter bottle of 190 proof (95%) grain alcohol.

I boiled the main ingredients and then added the Grain Alcohol after it cooled.

My uneducated guess is that it is around 40 proof (20%) alcohol.

What would you say? how did you get the answer? can i measure it with a hydrometer without taking a OG and FG?

one liter is 34 oz, so you have 1.5*34 = 51 oz 95% grain alcohol or 51*.95=48.5 oz at 100% alcohol

two gallons juice / cider 128*2= 256oz

total 51+256= 307 oz

percent alcohol would be 48.5/307= .158 or 15.8% or 32 proof

So i was not too far off.. I was kinda using fuzzy math.

So when talking about Apple Pie. Is that normal or kinda weak?? Whats the norm?

I make apple pie using 80 proof vodka and frozen concentrate apple juice, about half and half so around 40 proof. Cinnamon to taste. Very easy and tasty! No heating, just mix vodka and apple juice concentrate, a few shakes of cinnamon and shake to mix.....

The apple concentrate works well in that it doesn't water down the pie...

so basically this is just a cocktail? kinda like an apple pie cosmo.

For future reference you can use this...

(volume of liquor x alcohol by volume/total cocktail volume) x 100

FWIW I make something very similar but don't use that many cinnamon sticks and its spot on like apple pie. That seems like a whole lot of cinnamon.

My recipe is almost the same as yours except I add half a fifth of vanilla vodka. It's apple pie ala mode and it does taste like a scoop of ice cream on it. The problem with apple pie is it's not high in alcohol but it just tastes so good that by the time you think you may have had a bit too much, it's way too late and shortly after, you're way too f'd up.
