I am about 20 minutes into a mini mash kit from Austin Home Brewers. It is the Fatt Tire kit. I have not started the boil yet, I am still mashing/steeping, but I was reading through the directions and there are 3 kinds of hops and times listed: Target (bittering) @ 60 min (start), fuggle (flavor) @ 10 min, and kent golding (aroma) @ 0 min.

I have never seen instructions show hops being added at 0 min. When I add at the end of the boil, do they stay throughout the fermentation or pull them out after I cool the wort???

It's often times called "flame out." You just keep them in the wort while you chill it. When you transfer to your carboy or bucket, no need to include the hops you added at 0 min.

Good luck! I have made that several times and though it doesn't taste exactly like the original, it's a damn good beer.

I certainly wouldn't worry about it too much.. if you have a screen or cheesecloth (sterilized) you can pour the wort through to catch the hops as pour from boil to fermentor that would be normal. Many people 'whirlpool' at the end of the boil while cooling, stirring quickly and the hops will form a cone in the center; then pull wort from the outside to go to the fermentor. Not sure on your equipment for that though.

some hops going on aren't going to be a big deal, can't be much in any case for fat tire. I wouldn't worry about them and just dump them in, they'll settle with the yeast in primary. cheers!

Just throw em in! The closer the addition is toward the end of the boil the more aroma you will get out of them. It's perfectly fine.

It's a good idea to separate the hop matter as best you can from the cooled wort. Do you usually use a hop bag or something? Not all that big of a deal if you can't separate them out but it is better to do so.

I do use muslin bags for my hops. I know some people strain, some whirlpool, but I like to keep my stuff somewhat organized, which is why I use bags.

Should I worry about the serility of the muslin bag when adding the last hops since they won't be part of any boil? May be a dumb question, but could I soak the bag in my star san for a bit, pull it out, shake it off (I swear this isn't ment to be sexual :) ), put my hops in, then throw it in the pot?
