Hey, I'm drawing up ideas on a brew stand and I have a question. Is the march pump reversible? Can it pump in both directions? If not is there a pump out there that can do that?

Thanks,
Danny

You can change the orientation of the pump head to face whichever direction is appropriate for your setup. However, the inlet and outlet ports are single function - ie, the impeller only spins in one direction.

while you can, if you put it in a direction such that the outlet is on the lower end of the pump, it will be more difficult to prime.

Ok. Thanks for the info.

Are there any pumps that are used in the brewing community that are bi-directional?

Totally agree - sorry I didn't mention that. I know that some folks orient horizontal and have no issues, but I think the majority (and I) orient with the outlet on top to facilitate priming.

I haven't done anything, including buying the pump. I wanted to ask these question before buying something that I couldn't use.

It is a centrifugal pump where the fluid goes into the center of the impeller and is flung to the edge by centrifugal force. It will not pump backwards. If you want fluid to move the other direction just design your system with valves and a bypass so the fluid will reverse in the plumbing but still flow the correct direction thru your pump.

If you have the AC version of the pump then no, you cant reverse the pump. The DC version on the other hand, you can reverse the motor. But you wont get anything far as flow goes from the pump as the whole design of the pump whips fluid to the outside edges and out. You wont find a centrifical that works both ways....you'd want to look for a peristaltic (as mentioned) ar a gear drive, or even a screw type pump that can go both ways..
