Put boild hops in primary

Here is the hop bill. I ended up throwing about 2 oz of the hops and a shot glass in a hops sack, dumped it in the primary then snapped the lid. I just couldn't stomach throwing away all those whole cone hops! Will these boiled hops impart any undesirable flavors or aromas after being used in the boil?

60 minutes:
2 oz of magnum [14.4]
2 oz of columbia [13.3]
Last 10:
1 oz of simcoe [13.3]
Last 5:
2 oz of cascade [7.4]

This is dry hopping, Same Adams does this in their Lagers. May taste morn nurture but better more fuller I think!!!!!!!

I don't think you'll get much flavor out of hops used in the boil - the boil will take out the essential oils that you want for dry hopping. However, since some of the hops were late adds, there may still be some flavor you get from those (particularly your 2 oz of cascade). However, you probably don't want to leave them in for too long or you will start to get grassy/vegetal tastes from them. I don't go over a week dry hopping, and from what I've read, 2 weeks seems to be about the limit before you start getting off flavors (unless you are dry hopping in a chilled keg). Also, if you threw them in right after the boil, you are going to lose the dry hopping flavor from the CO2 being released as well.

I wouldn't expet those hops to add any effects desirable or undesirable. most of the essential oils that will add aroma were vaporized by this point, and what is left with most likely be carried away in the CO2 from fermentation. I don't filter my boil hops and never get any grassy effects from them. why'd you go through the trouble of filtering them out to only add them back in?

You do know he's using whole hops? But yeah,they're pretty spent by the time they come out of the boil. But I've noticed even pellets have plenty of smell left even after 15-20 mins of boiling. So,maybe a little left?...

I've done several batches without straining the hops after the boil. Didn't have any noticeable off-flavors when I did it.

The only difference is that you put the hops in a bag and then removed them when your boil was over? And now you want to put them into your primary? I'd say go for it. I can't speak for others, but I'm sure a lot of people don't strain their wort when transferring from kettle to primary.

Well,the way you worded your reply,it sounded like you were refering to pellets,which are more common & messier. Whole hops not so much so.

It was minimal effort. I just put a strainer ofer my fermentation bucket and dumped everything through the strainer. I think the hops actually added an extra filter layer too. Then I looked at all those beautiful hops and thought "if you can still get use out of these at 120 minutes (dogfish head 120 minute IPA) the surely they have something left".
