Hey everyone new to the forum. I have recently purchased bayou classic 82qt stock pot set for use in my brewery. I am trying to find a suitable false bottom and I have come accross 2 different websites u can buy one. My question is this. How far off the bottom should my false bottom be?...the ones I found for sale are 2.5 inch high. By my calculations with a pot 18.75 inch wide, that leaves me with just under 3gal of wort under my false bottom. This seems too much to me. I can always cut the stand down and make it lower but does anyone know how high it should be? I will be using a HERMS system so that might make the height less important. So if anyone knows a good place to buy a false bottom that works well with my pot let me know. Thanks

Try jaybird, he should be in the vendor section. He makes custom sized false bottoms. I would think 1/2-3/4" would be more than deep enough under the fb if you are not direct firing the mash.

I checked out jaybirds ..he makes one with 1.25 inch tall bottom but is rather expensive. I was looking at one on homebrewing.org for half the price. I know it's not the same thickness ss but other than that does it work better and is therefore worth the extra cost?

I have the same kettle. I installed a 12" false bottom with silicone tubing over to my ball valve. I use it keep out whole hop trub. It works well. I can send pictures if you want.
