When I was renting, I found a big propane tank in the garage that the previous renter left behind. I'm guessing that it was about a 35-50 pounder. When I moved, I took it with me with the intention of having it filled and using it for my brewtree.

Well, yesterday I finally took it in to get filled, along with three regular 20 pounders that were empty. It turns out that this particular tank holds liquid, not gas, so it wouldn't work for me, so I just told the guy to keep it. It was his, anyway- it had his company logo stamped on it.

So the guy fills the other three tanks that I brought along and helps me load them into my truck. Then he says, "We're good, ok?" At first I didn't know what he was talking about. He says that those tanks like the one I returned are worth upwards of $70 and he was so happy to get it back that he wasn't going to charge me for filling the other three tanks! I thought that was pretty cool!

Good job. I also have a couple of tanks with liquid valves in them. They were given to me by my work when they changed suppliers. I have checked on getting valves switched out but no one seems willing to do it. To bad, these tanks are aluminum and would polish up nicely.

All propane tanks hold liquid. Did the big one have a siphon tube in it? I doubt it would have and if it didn't there should have been no reason that you couldn't use it.

No doubt about returning it, you didnt lose anything in the first place and scored free propane! Nice deal.

Doesn't really matter. The tank was his property, and I'm glad I returned it.

I'm not arguing that. I would have probably done the same thing. I just didn't know if he was giving you a line of BS just so he could get his tank back.

Re-read Bernie's post, he'd already given the guy the tank back before he told Bernie the propane was on the house.

Not sure if that's karma or just people doing right by each other. In any case, nice score. Pretty sure he's got himself a repeat customer, too! Might return the favor with a sixer next time, too ;)
