Wow has propane ever climbed in price the last couple years.
75 cents a pound. (65 cents USD)

Used to cost me 5 bucks Canadian to fill a 20 lb tank, now its 17 bucks!

What do you all pay?

My regular grille tanks (I use them for my brew burner too-think they are 20#) are $14.

Cheapest exchange place I can find is right around $13-14 as well. I've seen tank exchange recently as high as $20.

If you take your tank to get it filled instead of exchange, it is MUCH cheaper. Took mine to U-haul the other day and filled it for 9 bucks (it was completely empty, BTW....).

Academy Sports is the cheapest here. 12 dollars and change for an exchange.

With no exchange, I had to buy the tank and all last week and it was $38.99. Place down the street wanted near 50 for the tank and propane.

I looked all over at pawn shops and such for an old used tank to exchange. No luck. I still wish I could find one to exchange for a spare.

It's running $2-2.30 USD/gallon up here. About 50% higher than last year. Once the new garage is in, I'll have a 150 gallon tank. No more trips to the service stations that are also out! I'll probably keep the two #30 tanks around for backup and portability.

Thanks for the tips on where to find exchangeable tanks, guys. Garage sales are pretty much out of the question right now, since I have to work on the weekends. I'll check with my neighbors. I have been checking out what people set out on the curb on trash days, looking beside dumpsters, etc. I'll find another one or two eventually.

Yeah. 17 for a refill not exchange rght now. Canadian dollor so about 14.50.

Stupid think is that propane is a waste byproduct and they used to just burn it off, then some guy got the idea of tanking it... and greed/profit... over priced propane for bbq's was born

I think it's around $14 to fill up here. A small price to pay for good beer.

My wife's the greatest. A few months ago, we were talking about how I use the LP tank for the grill and for brewing. She said, "that seems really inconvenient to have to disconnect the tank all the time, why don't you just buy another tank. That way, you're sure to always have enough gas to grill, and to brew."

She is awesome.

I'm just curious - when did they stop burning it off? I remember, at age 5, the propane man coming to our house out in the country every couple of weeks to fill our large outdoor propane tank - it was the supply tank for the heaters and stove. That was over 30 years ago!

They quit burning it off in the late 50's. The RV market is what changed things. Prior to that time rural areas used diesel to heat and occasionally butane for stoves.

Propane prieces first exceeded that of regular gas in the late 70's. At that time diesel also began to exceed the cost of gasoline. Strange because diesel requires less refining.

The price for an exchange just increased to over $16 at my local HD. That's a 25% jump!
