Well, I've been pronouncing it wrong but worse than that, I've been butchering the **** out of Hallertau.

It's better with beer.

Beer is a good option, but I was thinking a girlie froofroo drink would do as well. You know, something where your pinkie naturally rises as you take a sip. ... well, a gulp if you're watching this movie.

Y'know what? I'll just sip on a bottle of gin instead. That way I can say I 'watched' the movie, but won't remember enough of it to tell the tale.

watching it on DVD at home lounging on your couch is boring

you have to see it at a midnight movie along with a couple 100 other maniacs bringing props, acting it out, singing along & responding to lines

the way it was meant to be experienced

But in British English, the letters are there: aluminium. Us Yanks just came by and said, "What what? Too many "I"s in this word!" And then removed superfluous vowels.

I didn't realize that. Sounds about right though.

While we're criticizing each other's grammar, who pronounces Amarillo phonetically vs. the Spanish pronunciation?

Yes!

Come up and brew with me Sunday I can guarantee my voice sounds nothing like that!

Probably working that day. I haven't seen the schedule, but since I have Saturday off I more than likely am on the schedule for Sunday.

I didn't realize that. Sounds about right though.

Depends. If I'm referring to the city in Texas, it's phonetic but if I am using the Spanish word for the color yellow, then it's as the Spaniards say it.

I pronounced it Wil-am-ET before visiting the area and overheard locals saying Wi-LAM-et.

It's all good. People mispronounce Kissimmee all the fricken time. Myself included before I moved to Orlando.
It's Kis-SIM-mee not KISS-i-mee.
"Come ovah heah and kiss a mee."

Almost as bad as people pronouncing Di-Acetyl and Ass-a-Taldehyde wrong. Especially the latter. there is no acetyl in acetaldehyde.

Most like this: will- AM- et

Was on Brew Dogs last night so that must be right.

Phonetic from the native speaker of English or Spanish? ;)

I learned the word while learning Spanish long before I heard of a city in Tejas with that name. Hence, "ah-mah-REE-yo."

Half the country can't even pronounce Oregon correctly. We should start with that before moving on to Willamette.

Folks definitely say that incorrectly around here. Across the river lies Oregon, OH we mostly say "Or a gon" instead of the correct "Or ə gin"

I spent 2 years calling it Wil-la-met-te, with a kind of Dutch lilt to my voice, before hearing a farmer who grows it say the word.

I cringe when I hear people say heh Fa why zen instead of Hay fə vy tzen.... I guess maybe I can correct myself regarding Willamette... 'nuff rubes 'round these here parts what c'aint talk good.

+1 for Alice Cooper- stand up guy!

Just wait to you get south of Amarillo to the city of Lamesa. In Spanish it is two words- La Mesa (La MAY-sa.) But to the gringos it has become one word, pronounced (LaMEsah)

Us honkies ruin everything.

After brewing and bottling my first batch of beer successfully, im on to my next challenge, what beer to brew next! Any suggestions?

While on the topic of pronunciation, this has far less letters. But how long did everyone when first starting out pronounced WORT to rhyme with fort rather that rhyming with dirt?
