Depends. If I'm referring to the city in Texas, it's phonetic but if I am using the Spanish word for the color yellow, then it's as the Spaniards say it.

Spent the last twelve years in the Willamette and it is pronounced this way

It's all good. People mispronounce Kissimmee all the fricken time. Myself included before I moved to Orlando.
It's Kis-SIM-mee not KISS-i-mee.

Half the country can't even pronounce Oregon correctly. We should start with that before moving on to Willamette.

Folks definitely say that incorrectly around here. Across the river lies Oregon, OH we mostly say "Or a gon" instead of the correct "Or ə gin"

Just wait to you get south of Amarillo to the city of Lamesa. In Spanish it is two words- La Mesa (La MAY-sa.) But to the gringos it has become one word, pronounced (LaMEsah)
