Brew day went as planned until.... I go outside to boil and I tried all kinds of adjustments and still could not get past the black soot/orange flame. Never could get the blue as primary with just a little yellow. I have always used this setup. Any ideas.

First brew of the season? Check the venturi tube for spider webs, mouse beds, or anything else plugging it up. Orange flame and smoke means not enough oxygen.

You may have triggered the Excess Flow Preventer valve inside the plastic ACME nut on the regulator. That can happen if the regulator valve was opened before the tank valve was opened.

To reset it, you have to fully close the regulator and close the tank valve, then open the tank valve, then open the regulator valve...

Cheers!

Not the first brew, but something happened. Whatever it was at least for the time being is fixed. I took everything apart I could cleaned it all or tried blowing it out. Reassembled and worked as advertised. But was likely as day_trippr stated. Thanks
