Well guys im on my first batch and wondering what that stuff is at the bottom of the carboy? It looks like a tan color and kind of cremey. Ive heard of something called yeast cake and ive sure that is what it is but just clarifying. Thanks -Josh

The layer is the aftermath of the wonderful action of fermentation! Perfectly normal, you will get it every time-with extract or all grain! By the way-welcome! I'm also from Salem, Oregon, always willing to share a homebrew.

Hey sounds good man. Thats pretty crazy to have a reply in less than a hour from someone in your hometown. Ill try to read up to learn but man do i have questions :D

It's cool to see someone else from Salem on this forum! I'v only been on here for 6 months or so and have seen very few people from Oregon. I've been brewing off and on for 7 years (mainly off). Looking at your age, I'm finally not the youngest brewer in the city!!!
