Hey guys and gals, I recently bottled my 3rd batch with numbers 4, 5 and 6 right around the corner. This is the THIRD time I have been capping just to find MORE bottles I've cleaned, delabeled, sanitized, filled and my wing capper slips. I was 'lucky' this time, I only found 6. Last time I discovered 18!..SO aggravating, I thought for sure I culled all the rejects. Anyway, here is a list of all the brands I've come across so far that can't be capped without a bench capper. Please feel free to chime in and add any brands you have found yourself swearing at in the middle of bottling day!

Lucky Bucket Brewing
Founders
Lagunitas

I will update this next time I come across one (or two) I left out! Hope this can help somebody :mug:

San Miguel

(also fell for the lagunitas last. Batch, luckily only one bottle)

Just remembered - Anchor Steam doesn't work..as much as I wanted them to, they don't..

Any non-standard (ie not a normal longneck) can be a pain with a wing capper. If you would like to use those bottles, a bench capper will work flawlessly.

Hofbrau 330ml German longnecks won't work with a "wing" capper, and neither will Full Sail stubby bottles. They work just fine with a bench capper, but I have to put a block under the stubbies to get the ram to go down far enough. (it's worth it; I really like the stubby bottles)

Look at the flange on the bottles that work, such as Sam Adams, and compare to the ones that don't. Wide flanges usually work, narrow ones do not. Even bottles from the same company aren't all the same. Personally, Fat Tire works for me....want to get a bench capper, then it's not an issue. We keg most beers, but still bottle bigger beers, wine, mead, cider, often in 12 or 20 oz bottles with oxy barrier caps.

Note, first bottle might work with wing cappers, second won't

The best thing to do is ditch the wing capper and get a bench model ASAP. There are used ones on Ebay all the time, or if you buy one new, it will last a lifetime and you can always sell it if you get out of brewing.
