I decided on a whim to brew and IPA kit I have early tomorrow morning. I started this out around 5:30pm hoping it would be good to go by 9-10 tomorrow. I was aiming for a 2l starter but didn't take into account the volume of the yeast starter and the extra water to clean the vial out... I am planning on saving some of this yeast for another day. Do I need to wake up in the middle of the night to pour some of this off or will I wake to a mess?

Thoughts on there being enough suspended yeast to pour off 500ml now?

Well, firstly doing starters sideways is always a bad idea.

I would sanitise a yogurt container and set aside part of that. In the fringe, the lid will bulge, slowly venting gas. No problem.

I am sanitizing a pint mason jar at the moment Going to pour off about 500ml and toss it in the fridge. Krausen is about to the top already... Live and learn its only my second starter.
