I'd like to get a Blichmann Fermenator in the near future and as such have been doing all the research I can as of late. The big decision is standard fitting or tri-clamp? I think I found a compromise, but I need the help of some one that owns one of these beauties to determine whether or not its going to work. IMO the biggest drawback to standard fitting fermenter is the 1/2" bottom dump valve as apposed to the full inch that the Tri-Clamp sports. After emailing Blichmann I learned that the bottom port in the fermenter is actually 3/4" and it gets reduced to 1/2" at some point in the plumbing. I'm wondering if this point is the elbow? If the elbow is 3/4" female to 1/2" male it should be easy enough to hop on McMaster and get 3/4" elbow and 3 piece ball valve. I would personally feel a lot better about 3/4" dump over the 1/2" and it would save almost $200. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
