K, so I brewed a mini mash coffee porter. Been in the primary for almost 3 weeks. It's reached FG but my sample is a dark brown, not much darker than the IPA I brewed. My question is, shouldn't it be more black like a stout? I drank a porter last night at the bar and it was black. You could smell and taste the coffee flavor and it was good, I just expected a darker brew.

Aha! Got it. Thanks for the link. I didn't care much about the color, since it tastes good, but was confused since it wasn't what I expected.

It was a kit put together by a local home brew shop. I have the recipe, but not with me. I followed all instructions and I bottled yesterday. It's actually pretty dark brown so I think I'm good. Just had the wrong impression in my mind of the color. Flavor and scents are good.
