I have been looking at the 6 gallon ported Better Bottles and I am curious. Can you use the port and some tubing to drain directly into your bottling bucket instead of racking into the bucket? Or is the level of the yeast cake and other sediment too high to do so?

Yes, you can draw beer off the top of the yeast cake, no problem. You can adjust the height of the pick-up tube on the port which means you can draw beer off the very bottom of the bottle or ~5" off the bottom or anywhere in between.

Yep, that's the whole point of having the ported BB. I never have to start a siphon. You can also use it as a bottling bucket (not directly from the primary, but if you racked from primary into a better bottle) since the port accepts the bottling wand. I haven't tried it but I will in a few weeks. I imagine it will be pretty easy since the better bottle now holds the wand for you, and you just need to hold the bottle.
