I heard Jamil say he autoclaved his, so I figured oven at 350 for 20 minutes would be an equivalent. wrongo.

Fyi a pressure cooker is a poormans autoclave. With 15psi they reach around 250deg f, this temp for 15 min kills everything. I autoclave aka pressure cook flask + wort+ foil + stir bar to sterlize before making staters. Also the steam in a pressure cooker conducts the heat better than dry air in an oven and stops rubber seals from drying out.

i think you have your polyethylene and polymethylpentene mixed up. I dont think HDPE would survive an autoclave but I could be wrong.

Pressure and steam are what you are missing, they lower the heat requirement. I sell polypropylene autoclaving trays at my work and they work great, but only work because of the unique conditions of an autoclave.
