So I have been looking for a kegerator and found someone selling a Bev air BM23, but his has this weird "super chiller" on it.

Can anyone tell me what this is and will I still be able to add extra taps to this crazy looking device?

Looks like an added box to keep the tower cold, thus beer foam free.

Edit:
Actually that box looks sort of like one of those Heineken tiny keg pouring units.

Seller says it is a rapid chiller and has its own compressor. The BM23 is a sweet kegerator, the mod is making me nervous though. I don't want to buy it and have the thing never be modifiable to add a second tap for example. It looks to be in very good shape, he says like new. it's a three hour drive to see it so I am just trying to get a grip on what the chiller thing could mean to the overall picture of using this unit.

Seller also states there is no "hole" through stainless top on the kegerator. Basically plumbing is through back. Says you could physically slide the top chiller unit off to one side or the other. Says it uses coils around beer line. It does have two plugs.

I am still slight baffled / frightened by this

Is the compressor in the Bev-air shot?

No indication of that, seller states this was an add on option to the unit to super chill beer before dispensing. He is not original owner but claims it is about 3 years old and works very well. Said his sons ran two kegs of yuengling through it before he decided to sell it.

Now that I look at the last picture more closely it looks like red fluid in the tubing. This does indeed look to be some sort of glycol cooling system. Just perplexed if another tap could be added.

Since when is anything in homebrew proper?

If the price is right, I might be inclined to but teh rig. But, I'd prolly decapitate the glycol chiller for a conical jacket or something.

All a glycol cooler does is recirculate glycol through a loop system. some loops are as simple as the hoses wraped around shanks and some employ aluminum cooling blocks. Impossible to say what this has.

Yeah, Price is right about $500 - which on the face seems a great deal but I think I am just going to install a dual tower into a sanyo 4912M. The Glycol tower thing just puts me off. I cant understand why such a mod would be done to what is , from my limited experience, an already high end unit.

It's ashame your not closer to PA. I have one I got off CL for free and got working. Works like a champ, just needs the fan for the inside to pull the cold air out of the evaporator box. I might be perplexed to sell it for the right price.

huh? I'm perplexed

Actually I'd be more willing to trade it for some items. However, Florida is a bit of a haul dianotti. Forgot, no tap with it and it could use a tower (cracked).

IMO, That thing is ugly man. I look at that and see another thing that can fail. A fan blowing into a insulated tower would be fine.

Agreed I am not buying t as stated earlier. Had this been a stock Bev air BM23 for $500 I would have bought it. The whole super rapid coooler bs kills it for me. Looks like trouble, cant mod with a new two or three tap easily, etc.
